‘Astral’ represents the pinnacle of Star Lane Vineyard. Produced from own-rooted Cabernet in the best locations within the vineyard, Astral showcases the elegance, complexity and richness that Happy Canyon has to offer and demonstrates the world-class capability of the appellation. Astral is made only in the best vintages and released on allocation. The wine has been called “world-class” by renowned critic Jeb Dunnuck.

The name “Super Tuscan” originated from the idea that wines being made from Bordeaux grape varieties within Tuscan wine regions such as Chianti were outside the regulations of the regions and also arguably superior to their classified counterparts. We will taste two Super Tuscan wines based on Cabernet Sauvignon that demonstrate the potential for this noble grape within the California-esque Tuscan terroir.

Bordeaux is the home of great Cabernet Sauvignon and has often been considered the benchmark for quality with the great varietal. In 1855, ahead of the world’s fair in Paris, the Chateaux of the “Left-Bank” of the Gironde estuary in Bordeaux were classified 1-5 by quality, and only two edits have been made to the classification to this day. We will taste two 2nd Growth wines from the sub-region of St. Julien.
